Pollmann's fleet goes electric

The market for electric cars is growing at a rapid pace. This development can not only be observed on the roads of the world, but is also reflected in the Pollmann parking lot: The share of our company cars with electric drive is continuously increasing. Two members of the international Pollmann family, who have already switched, report on their motivation, driving experience and challenges.

Miscellaneous

"For me, this is the most efficient way of getting around," says Robert Pollmann as he steps out of his Škoda Enyaq, which, like the Pollmann lettering on the headquarters in Karlstein, shines bright blue. The Pollmann owner is a convinced electromobilist. Already 10 years ago, he said goodbye to his car with a classic combustion engine and bought the Volvo V60, one of the first plug-in hybrids available in Austria. This was followed by an e-Golf, which is now driven by his wife, and two years ago by the Škoda. Robert Pollmann is absolutely satisfied with its range of 350 kilometers on average.

Quiet and smooth

When asked about the driving experience, the adjectives quiet and smooth immediately come to his mind. "When you step on the gas, the car speeds up and doesn't get any louder, which is fun," he adds with a smile. Being able to charge his vehicle largely with solar power from his own roof also gives him a good feeling.

Marina Wieland, Global Business Unit Manager at Pollmann, does not have this option. She plugs in her VW ID.3 at the company parking lot. After diesel and gasoline engines, she has been driving electrically since 2021. Due to her long commute, she has covered 50,000 kilometers since then. " I drive 200 kilometers a day, so the idea of sustainability plays a big role. I used to have to fill up two or three times a week," she says.

Wieland can easily get to Vienna Airport and back home on one charge - that's important for her job. Lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, light assistant, rain sensor: all the intelligent features of the ID.3 ensure comfort and safety. The electric car is also quiet. This means that the time spent in the car can be used for phone calls without any problems, which is a major benefit, especially in sales.

If you want to drive electrically, you have to adapt

Of course, not everything is positive; electromobility is also accompanied by a certain need for adaptation: Wieland and Pollmann now select supermarkets and hotels according to the availability of charging stations, and on longer journeys there are now more extended coffee breaks. Neither criticizes the existing charging infrastructure in general. But they do wonder whether the expansion of this will be able to keep pace with the rapid increase in e-cars, or whether it will eventually become congested.

Advantages outweigh disadvantages

While Robert Pollmann has always been fascinated by electric mobility, Marina Wieland's enthusiasm only awakened later. However, both of them can no longer imagine switching to a traditional combustion engine. The driving experience is too pleasant, and reducing CO2 emissions is too important. They happily accept the more frequent charging compared to regular refueling and the small adaptations in their daily lives.

Partner of the pioneers and innovators

As e-cars become increasingly popular, the e-mobility business area is gaining in importance for Pollmann. The speed of development is enormous, but Pollmann's know-how is constantly growing along with it and offers manufacturers real competitive advantages in the rapidly increasing unit numbers. As a partner of pioneers and innovators, Pollmann manufactures busbars and assemblies for energy transmission, components for electrical control units and systems for battery-cell connection.
