Production control system at Pollmann

Man, machine, company – the MES software that knows exactly what we need

The fact that production control works so well at Pollmann is due to a few very special people, and it is now high time to introduce them: From its start in 2006, the Waldviertel company RMTH has been focusing on programming a Manufacturing Execution System (EMS). Why is that so special for Pollmann? The two founders Roland Ertl and Hannes Hochleitner are previous Pollmann employees who were responsible for data acquisition and production control at our company.

Why Norway’s automotive market is “electrified”

With a market share of 48 percent, e-cars are more successful in Norway than almost anywhere else. The government spends millions on incentives for carbon-neutral vehicles. But for how much longer?

While alternative drives are still serving a niche market elsewhere, they have long been widely accepted in this far northern country. 46.6 percent of newly registered passenger cars in Norway are electric. As a comparison: At last count, this figure was only 2.5 percent in Austria. “Norwegians are happy with their e-cars. In a recent survey, 73 percent of e-car owners said that they inspired at least one other person to also switch to an emission-free car,” says Erik Lorentzen, Head of Analysis and Consultancy of the Norwegian EV Association.

This doubling of the plant size continues the successful growth which Pollmann Mechatronics Co., Ltd. started 13 years ago in the City of Kunshan.

HTL Hollabrunn is building an open shop area for working creatively in a networked environment – Pollmann supports this project with five new workstations

With the new makerspace shop, engineering college (HTL) Hollabrunn is developing a creative work area for students equipped with sophisticated technical equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters or a special embroidery machine.

Director Wolfgang Bodei wants to support students in working creatively in a networked environment by giving them free access to means of production and modern industrial manufacturing methods for single pieces. Everyone will be able to use the makerspace also outside regular school hours. Robert Pollmann is very excited about this idea and supported the makerspace project by donating four new workstations with monitors in early April.

Hypo-NÖ Bank CEO Wolfgang Viehauser and NÖN editor-in-chief Walter Fahrnberger present the Leopold award to Markus Pollmann

Pollmann wins “Leopold” prize
NÖN award in Business goes to industrial employer from the Waldviertel region

The award ceremony took place at the NV Forum in St. Pölten on November 8. The Lower Austrian weekly newspaper NÖN recognized Pollmann International with the “Leopold Award” in the Business category. With Governor Johanna Mickl-Leitner in attendance, Markus Pollmann personally accepted the award on behalf of the company. As one of the largest industrial employers in the Northern part of Austria, Pollmann relies on the consistent development of its employees as it expands the company to meet the challenges of an increasingly global automotive world.

This annual award, established in 2000 and named after Lower Austria’s patron saint, is given to people, institutions and companies for exemplary performance in the categories Courage, Commitment, Culture, Sports, Business and Future.

Today’s apprentices – tomorrow’s skilled professionals!
Pollmann strategy focuses on junior talent.

In September, 19 new apprentices started their careers at Pollmann to become skilled professionals. Fourteen of them joined Pollmann Austria and five started at Pollmann in the Czech Republic. We are especially pleased with the large number of female apprentices. Their preferred career choices are Metal Technology-Tool Shop Engineering, Process Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Mechatronics and Metalworking.

An apprenticeship-based career has become an integral part of Pollmann’s efforts to educate and train qualified professionals. As a consequence, the number of managers at the Karlstein headquarters who started their careers in the company as an apprentice is steadily growing. Take, for instance, Michelle Tomsa: Eight years ago, she started as an apprentice in the Turning Shop and continued to work there after completing her apprenticeship.  In early June 2018, Michelle became Head of the Turning Department - clear proof that women can be excellent managers also in technical fields.

Happy customers make us happy

In our international customer survey 2018 we asked our customers to tell us frankly what they think. The last survey took place in 2015. This is what we’re always most interested in: Where can we become better? Which strengths should we build on? Where can we become more cost-effective? Ultimately, these are questions that are important not only for us. They also affect our customers, because if we find the right answers, our customers can maintain and build on their success. One thing is clear: The satisfaction of our customers is a measure of their loyalty and the foundation for a long-term partnership. You should be a Pollmann customer not because you have to, but because you want to. That is why customer feedback is so important to us.

We sent out 702 questionnaires and asked customer contacts from Purchasing, Logistics, Project Management and Quality for their input.

Inalfa award. Keep it up!

On April 12, Pollmann China had another reason to celebrate. On that day, this year’s “Inalfa Suppliers Day” took place in Chongquing where the Jialing river in the south-western part of the country meets the Yangtze Kiang. This sprawling city of 30 million is known for its large number of companies from the automotive industry. Ford and Hyundai have located here, and Inalfa itself has facilities in Chongquing which are supplied with Pollmann products.

Project manager David Gressl was the star of the day. He has been with Pollmann China for three years and attended this year’s “Inalfa Suppliers Day” in person. Inalfa recognized the high quality of its collaboration with Pollmann with an award.

Pollmann supports Caritas

Pollmann received many smiles and “thank-yous” for its donation of EUR 7,100 to the Caritas Workshop Waidhofen/Th.

The company’s Christmas Party philosophy has always been: “Celebrate for a good cause in the region.” The Works Council for Wage Earners did a great job running the cash bar. Managing Director Erwin Negeli matched the amount raised and proudly presented Workshop Manager Karin Fida with a check for EUR 7,100. Thanks to this tradition, Pollmann has donated a total of EUR 29,100 to various charitable organizations in our region over the past five years.
