Matthias Kitzler - new Purchasing Manager at Pollmann International

Pollmann International – a career at Pollmann

In early April, Mr. Matthias Kitzler became Head of the Strategic Purchasing and Materials Management Department  at Pollmann International (PINT). With this appointment, Mr. Kitzler is switching sides so-to-speak, because for the past 11 years he had a successful career in Sales at Pollmann after completing his training in Microelectronics and Toolmaking.

“As an account executive, I always had a lot of contacts with the Purchasing Departments of our customers, and I can apply a lot of what I learned in my new position. Good negotiation skills are simply a must if you want to succeed in business. But you always have to be fair”, says Matthias Kitzler pointing out an important value in the Pollmann corporate culture. “It is not about pushing down prices, it is about developing intelligent solutions with our supplier partners which bring long-term benefits for both parties.”

New opportunities through process innovation

The so-called comfort opening for tailgates as we know it from the premium segment is also becoming standard in many mid-range vehicles. Modifying and improving the required tailgate drive systems is an interesting development for Pollmann. For the second-generation drives, the heavy steel tubes are replaced by our plastic tubes made of PA for the spindle drives. For Pollmann customers, this means considerable savings in component costs.

That is also the reason why Pollmann is producing such spindle drive covers in ever greater numbers. We currently have orders in place for 100 million units.

Expansion - new production building in Karlstein

Knowing that the 1,220 m² production building would be running at full capacity from the very beginning was obviously an additional incentive for the construction managers not to waste any time. The 5th production building started operations at the Karlstein location on schedule in December 2016.

A large-scale customer project for door locks required additional manufacturing space and could not wait. With this new building, Pollmann has created space for additional injection molding and automation equipment. At the same time, we wanted to equip the new machines with a central material drying system to increase process efficiency. A new material storage area, a transformer station capable of peak loads, a separate cooling system for the plant room as well as a high-performance compressed air system help improve production logistics further.

Tim Giometti, the new CEO of Pollmann North America

I am extremely excited to lead the Pollmann North American team and its expansion efforts. I bring over 25 years of technical acumen in the transportation industry and look forward to grow the Pollmann name both in the United States and Mexico. Our value proposition is unique in the marketplace where we have the agility of a small organization but the resources of a larger corporation.

The automotive arena is quite challenging but it also comes with its own unique set of rewards. To take something from concept into commercial production is something that will always put a smile on my face.

Pollmann supports Mühlenhof RadVit in Vitis

Pollmann’s Christmas Party philosophy has always been: “Celebrate for a good cause in the region”. The Works Council for Wage Earners again did a great job running the cash bar. This year, the proceeds went to Mühlenhof RadVit in Vitis. As is tradition, Pollmann Austria matched the amount raised and proudly presented Dunja Eisner (Managing Director – RadVit) and Mag. Martin Hetzendorfer (Chairman - Sponsoring Organization “Haus der Zuversicht”) with a check for EUR 5,000 in Vitis on February 7.

Pollmann China celebrates 10-year anniversary

Kunshan/Karlstein. Many guests accepted Pollmann’s invitation to celebrate the company’s 10-year anniversary in Kunshan Province, China. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking Chinese officials and representatives of the Austrian consulate as well as many international customers. Robert Pollmann fondly remembered the warm welcome the company had received in 2006 when it was accepted into the Kunshan Industrial Park as the first of eight companies. He especially thanked the more than 400 Chinese employees for the terrific progress the location has made.

“We were pleased to have high-profile officials such as Mr. Huang from the Zhangpu government join our ceremony,” says Ewald Miksche, CEO of Pollmann. “A big thank you also to our Consul General Silvia Neureiter and to Christina Schösser, Commercial Attaché to the Austrian Embassy in Shanghai.”

Apprentices to start at Pollmann

(September 2016)
8 new apprentices enter training with an international outlook

As an international, family-owned business, Pollmann places great value on offering a sustainable education and training program. In addition to the dual education system (vocational school and practical experience in technical fields), apprentices at Pollmann receive extensive additional training. Presentations by in-house experts, participation in projects and training sessions about topics such as lean production, quality assurance in the production process, social competence or English complement our training program.

Pollmann offers exceptional comprehensive training in an international company that prepares the apprentices for jobs with solid career prospects, says Erwin Negeli, CEO Pollmann Austria. An additional special incentive is Pollmann’s “Fit for International” program which lets the top apprentices in the graduating classes spend time at a Pollmann location abroad. Pollmann has currently 35 apprentices in seven different skilled professions.

The pre-overmolding system consists of a decoiler for the lead frame (4), a vertical injection molding machine (3), a Pollmann 200kN servo press (2) and a buffer conveyor for trays (1)

Pre-overmolding and final overmolding – more process stability in production

We are continuously developing our manufacturing processes for the production of complex components and modules in large volumes and adapting them to ever increasing demands. Injection molding machines and connected equipment are increasingly merged into actual production units.

To ensure the most efficient and flexible use of these units, our plant engineers have come up with something special: They are combining conventional pre-overmolding systems with final overmolding systems. This means that metal parts which have to be pre-overmolded in a first step are set up so that they are completely in sync with the final overmolding system.

Fit thanks to a clear product strategy

Here they are! The new Pollmann product classes.

Proper organization and a product family which is clearly relevant for our customers are two important cornerstones for the sustainable development of our company. That is why, during the first half of 2016, Pollmann International put a lot of thought into how we can present our extensive product portfolio to our customers with even more clarity and transparency.

In doing so, we see our role as follows: Our excellence in developing and producing highly complex mechatronics modules using a composite of metal and plastic makes us the best partner to the automotive industry when it comes to large volumes. Our solutions which are based on innovative processes play a major part in our customers’ success.
