Short-time work in Karlstein and Vitis - Plant in China on the way to normal production

A very reduced emergency program is being operated at both locations to maintain delivery capacity.

In the course of the Covid 19 crisis, the Wood Quater Auto parts supplier Pollmann decided to work in Karlstein and Vitis to introduce short-time working for the period from April 1 to June 30, 2020. At the Chinese site in Kunshan, the work is already back on track. The demand is encouraging: there are good expectatives in China, to be able to produce again from May to the full scope of planning.


Robert Pollmann, managing partner is optimistic: “That short-time working model not only secures jobs, but also offers maximum flexibility in the delivery schedules. ” He sees good opportunities after the end of the health and the resulting economic crisis the machines again to be able to fully ramp up: “The federal government has given us a working tool, in order to keep safe the jobs in the region. The positive experiences from China show that we are up for it
have to be prepared after the break. "


Break since April 1st
Pollmann has been receiving the effects of the OEM plant closings since mid-March felt in the delivery schedules. By this time the order situation had grown proven to be stable.
With the rapid and significant decrease in customer requests, the decision couldn not be postponed in the last days of March: Pollmann is introducing short-time work for the period from April 1 to June 30, 2020 for the Karlstein and Vitis locations.The capacities at the locations in the USA and the Czech Republic also had to be adjusted.


Stand by in the Wood Quarter
In Karlstein and Vitis, the plants are currently only producing at a low level.
A few plants are kept going to take care of remaining work orders through and remain flexible for future situations. All components are still able to be produce and the delivery quotas are called up according to plan.
In production, the remaining shifts were organized so that any agglomeration of colleagues can be avoided. The new short-time working rules also apply to all employees in the administrative area, who predominantly work in Home-Office mode.


Encouraging prospects in China
In China, Pollmann learns what the time after Corona can look like. At the factory in Kunshan had to cease production down to 80 percent at the end of January. With a small part of the regionally based permanent workforce, however, a emergency operation can be maintained. With the start up in March and the return of the employees from the quarantine regions, Pollmann China has returned satisfactory from the Corona valley. The customer requests turned out to be very stable in the first weeks of April. CEO Pollmann International Herbert Auer: “There are good expectatives for China, which was budgeted again in May to be able to retract utilization. We are all optimistic that there will be as well a good re-start in Austria.
