Karlstein, 2.7.2020. The response was overwhelming. On January 30, automotive supplier Pollmann from Karlstein invited young people and their parents to an apprentice information evening. 101 people from the region attended including 46 who were interested in apprenticeships. Pollmann plans to accept eleven new apprentices in seven apprenticeship-based occupations to start in September.
Foundations of success
Apprentices are one of the major reasons for the success the family-owned company from Waldviertel enjoys. That is why Pollmann, one of the largest employers in the region (1800 employees worldwide), works very hard to generate and promote interest in the company among young people in Waldviertel. The annual apprentice information evenings are part of a comprehensive apprentice concept which opens the door for young people to start an international career in a skilled trade.
Meeting future colleagues
On January 30, Pollmann opened the doors to its plant in Karlstein so that the 101 visitors could experience the seven apprenticeship-based occupations at Pollmann first-hand. The visitors included 46 young people who were actively interested in a potential career at Pollmann. The parents and family members who came along in great numbers are always important guests because Pollmann believes that the decision about an apprenticeship should involve the whole family.
Apprentice presentations
A brief company presentation which explained the areas of responsibility of the skilled professionals needed and the career opportunities at Pollmann was followed by a detailed description of the individual training steps. A Pollmann apprentice follows a clearly defined training concept which includes the training workshop, vocational school as well as presentations and continuing education from in-house experts. After the presentations, second- and third-year apprentices took the guests on a tour so that they could take a close look at the different workplaces. Experienced skilled employees were available at the workstations to answer questions. The apprentice evening ended with a lively exchange of experiences between the young people and Pollmann employees. The process of selecting apprentices will start end of February - there is still time to apply!
Apprenticeship - the start of a great career
As part of its manpower planning, Pollmann relies on a carefully structured apprentice concept which supports young people at every step of their careers. The company also opens doors to the world: Experience gained at the locations in China, the U.S. or the Czech Republic strengthens career opportunities at home and abroad. The approach is tried and tested: Many department heads and technical experts started their careers as apprentices at Pollmann.
