Pollmann International continues vigorous expansion in China

Austrian automotive supplier accelerates growth

April 13 is a day when Pollmann China celebrates the future. On this date, the company, which specializes in mechanical and electromechanical modules, breaks ground for the 3rd expansion stage of its production location in Kunshan, again highlighting its strong global growth.

Having recently decided to establish a second production site in Austria, Pollmann International is now expanding its capacities also in China. The ground-breaking ceremony continues the successful growth which Pollmann Mechatronics Co., Ltd. started 12 years ago in Kunshan. Consul General Brigitte Robinson-Seyrlehner and Consul (Commercial Affairs) Mag.a Christina Schösser from the Austrian Consulate in Shanghai and Mr. Gu Xiangmin, Mayor of Zhangpu Town attended the festivities.

The third expansion stage will almost double the size of the plant. This step became necessary because of strong demand in the fast-growing Chinese market and related developments among Pollmanns long-standing Tier 1 customers. As Pollmann China Managing Director Ewald Miksche describes the companys development: At our 10-year anniversary only 18 months ago, we had 400 employees - today we have 500 and we are bursting at the seams. Whats more, our sunroof customers are doing extremely well and are expanding their capacities in China. Proximity to our customers is our top priority. So it makes perfect sense that we want to join our customers when they invest in the future.

The total building space, which is located on Pollmanns existing premises, will be increased by 9,360m2 to 20,500m2. Fortunately, we had the foresight to buy a large enough piece of land so that we can respond quickly to market developments, says Markus Pollmann, owner of the company which is headquartered in Waldviertel in Lower Austria.

The new plant will start operations in the spring of 2019. Based on 375 million yuan in 2017, the sales target for 2022 is 600 million yuan or about 80 million euros. Pollmann International CEO Herbert Auer explains: We plan to generate this amount with the growing number of Chinese customers and with continued business with world-renowned automotive supplier brands like BOSCH, BROSE, CONTINENTAL, MAGNA, INTEVA, INALFA and WEBASTO.

The mostly air-conditioned production facilities, the high degree of automation and the production output at our location are impressive even by Chinese standards, says Managing Director Ewald Miksche. We are told that cleanliness down to the smallest detail has made us a model plant in the Kunshan economic region. People also highly value Pollmanns 130-year tradition as a family-owned business, adds Miksche.

With the new addition, the company will soon have a 3,600m2 area available for injection molding with room for twice as many injection molding machines in the Production Units as before. The company plans for a workforce of 800 people. This should be sufficient for a while,”  says 4th generation owner Markus Pollmann who is visibly pleased with Pollmanns success in the promising Asian market. He points out that the speed with which China is moving towards hybrid and electric technologies gives us great confidence to take the next steps, because we have a lot of expertise also in these fields. He is convinced that his company, already the global market leader in sunroof kinematics and door lock systems, is perfectly positioned for the Asian market.

During the celebration, Markus Pollmann expressed his thanks to the employees, the municipal and provincial government agencies and to the Austrian Consulate. "It takes a commitment to common goals if we want to succeed in delighting our existing customers with top products and attracting new ones," says Markus Pollmann and looks to the future with joy and anticipation.
