Pollmann establishes new location in Mexico

The logical next step in our strategy ‘Worldwide, but local’.

“Arriba, Arriba! Ándale!, Ándale!” – Who doesn’t know the call of the fastest mouse in all of Mexico? Pollmann was not quite as fast, but very thorough in exploring the opportunities and risks of expanding into Mexico. This fall, we decided to establish a production facility in one of the world’s fastest growing automotive markets.

Following locations in the Czech Republic, the U.S. and China, we will establish a production site in Mexico. We are building a new Pollmann plant close to San Miguel de Allende, a World Heritage Site in the state of Guanajuato, a four-hour drive North-West of Mexico City. “We purchased a 15,000 m² plot of land and will invest 11 million USD. This will strengthen our position as a relevant player in one of the world’s most dynamic automotive markets.

“Pollmann is determined to supply its global customers on a local level,” says Pollmann International Sales Manager Frank Pluschke. The new plant in Mexico will see a lot of in-house production – including stamping, molding and final assembly.” We will break ground in early 2017. Production and office buildings with a total area of about 4,500m² will be ready in the fall.

Pollmann will also use this new location to grow its market shares in North America. By aligning production and logistics of the two locations in the NAFTA region, Pollmann will ensure sustainable development on the American continent. While the U.S. location in the Greater Chicago area specializes in highly automated components in the Door, Engine, Powertrain und e-Mobility divisions, the focus in Mexico will be on manual processes for large sunroof mechanisms, door locks and spindle drives.

“The company is registered, the building plans are ready, and a large order from sunroof manufacturer Inalfa for two US car makers is already on the books. Things have to move fast now,” says Herbert Auer, highlighting the company’s efficient planning of this strategically important expansion. “We will break ground in early 2017 and the first components are scheduled for delivery in January 2018.”
