Automation Engineer

This position leads and/or assists with the quotation, integration and improvement of complex automation equipment, and establishes reliable PLC programs for automation and robotics.

The ideal candidate is a cross skilled (mechatronics) automation engineer and possesses strong PLC programming skills around Allen Bradley, Beckhoff and diverse robotic systems and automation.

Scope of Duties:

  • Assess automation requirements for new customer inquiries for production projects and provides estimates; participates in feasibility meetings.
  •  Assists with manufacturing concepts, design, and purchasing of automation equipment.
  • Leads and/or assists with detailed vendor quotes for automation equipment.
  • Manages the installation and run off of automation equipment.
  • Creates and modifies PLC programs for automation and robots.
  • Verifies all electrical systems and controls on equipment are meeting design, efficiency, and safety standards.
  •  Creates and/or verifies working instructions or troubleshooting guides as they relate to automation; trains production personnel as needed.
  • Ensures automation programs are current and regularly backed up.
  • Troubleshoots production equipment and supports off shifts as needed.
  • Leads and/or assists with automation equipment operational improvements (e.g. cycle time, scrap reduction, etc.) in view of overall company objectives.
  • Travels to customers or vendors as needed. 


  • Degree in Engineering, preferably BSEE.
  • 5+ years of experience with complex automation and robotic system production processes.
  •  Advanced PLC programming skills (Allen Bradley, Beckhoff).
  • Familiar with different testing and vision control systems (high pot, Cognex, etc.
  • Familiar with Industry safety standards (OSHA, CE, etc.)
  •  Proficient in Design/Drafting Tools (Pro-E, Solid Edge).
  • Knowledge/experience with mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic applications and systems.
  • Experience with injection molding, tool and die preferred.
  •  Experience in leading projects and working with budgets.
  • Experience and skill in troubleshooting control system issues
